Over the past few years, social media sites have become a huge part of everyday life for millions of people around the world. In fact, some social media websites have become so prevalent, that many people are constantly on or checking their online profiles. With this in mind, the research and development team at Toyota, in conjunction with Salesforce.com, have come up with a way for people to put their rides on social media. In addition to internet connection, these new vehicles will have high-quality tire and wheel packages, and can be custom fit for rims from Beyern wheels or Lorenzo wheels.
A recent press release from the two companies say that they have “formed a strategic alliance to build ‘Toyota Friend’, a private social network for Toyota customers and their cars. Toyota Friend will be powered by Salesforce Chatter, a private social network used by businesses, and will be offered, first in Japan, initially with Toyota’s electric vehicles (EV) and plug-in hybrid vehicles (PHV) due in 2012.” The new technology will be available in cars like the Toyota Camry and Toyota Corolla.
The aim for the new social networking site is to allow owners of Toyota hybrids to coordinate with each other at all times. People will be able to share where charging stations are with each other, give one another tips on driving hybrids, and also be able to share where you can get maintenance on Toyotas. This technology will help these drivers of Toyotas keep in contact and share important information about the hybrids so that they are always only a button away from assistance. For example, “In a demonstration at a Tokyo showroom, an owner of a plug-in Prius hybrid found out through a cellphone message from his Prius called “Pre-boy” that he should remember to recharge his car overnight,” reports the Detroit News. “When the owner plugged in his car to recharge it, the car replied, ‘the charge will be completed by 2:15 a.m. Is that OK? See you tomorrow.”
While the new networking system has not yet been scheduled for a US release, many people are excited about the possibility of having a vehicle with its own social media platform. This will allow many users to learn about features in their car that they might not have known existed. Also, having a car that is constantly connected to the internet will allow drivers to access online features with their voice, as opposed to looking down at their cell phones which can be very dangerous. Hands free use of the internet is just one of the exciting benefits of having a car that is a member of a social media site.
The new line of Toyota’s is going to be an interesting case study for other car manufacturers to see whether or not consumers are engaged by, and willing to pay for, a car that has a social media platform installed in it. In addition to internet connectivity and social media capability, these new models of Toyotas benefit from having upgraded wheel and tire packages. Custom rim companies like Beyern and Lorenzo are excellent options for the new Toyotas, and can greatly help improve the handling and performance of a vehicle. These rims come in 18 inch and 20 inch.
