About American Racing Wheels
The American Racing wheels company has been around now for over 56 years. The company was officially launched in 1956. It all started when Romeo Palamides, who was an early drag racer, designed and made high strength drag racing wheels. All of these wheels were originally designed and made in a tiny machine shop in San Francisco in the years 1954 and 1955. Palamides’ engineering partner, Jim Ellison, founded American Racing Equipment in 1956.
In the early 60’s is when the American Racing Torq Thrust line was introduced and it is said to be one of the most famous custom wheels of all time. The Torq Thrust is the famous five spoke wheel that is said to have started the custom wheel phenomenon.
In June 2005 the investment group Platinum Equity took over American Racing Equipment Inc. Some of the most popular in the American Racing wheels line are the Torq Thrust and the Baja. The American Racing Baja wheel was one of the first aluminum truck wheels. Even today, it still sells great for trucks and Jeeps. The American Racing Baja wheels come in either polished or chrome and is an eight hole design.
