Wheels keep us on the road and moving but for some people, they serve as a status and pride symbol.
To convenience yourself to choose a giant wheel, you don’t don’t necessarily need to be a fan of the Fast and the Furious series. A wheel may be just a plain round metal hoop that the tires are mounted on, but it still affects how your car handles, how comfortable the ride is, and how safe it is to drive.
After all, if you’re considering upgrading to Strada wheels to make your car look better, you need to keep a few things in mind. In this blog, we will discuss some essential points. Keep reading to learn more.
1. Don’t lose your nuts over lugs.
Do you know how your car’s lug nuts are arranged? Fitting on a wheel differs somewhat from fitting on a pair of shoes. Mounting points on a wheel hub can differ between manufacturers.
In addition to the fact that some vehicles have five, four, or even three lugs to mount the wheel on, the size of the stud pattern differs from model to model. This is known as its stud pattern (or Pitch Circle Diameter, PCD).
The stud pattern of Strada wheels is usually listed in a vehicle’s vehicle owner’s manual or can be found engraved onto some wheels.
The most common numeral configuration is 5/114, often known as 5×114. The first number indicates five mounting holes, and the second indicates the distance between the centers of those holes (114mm). These figures are significant since a wheel with a different stud design won’t fit onto your car’s wheel hub.
2. Watch that diameter
Most people know that changing the size of your car’s wheels or tires will impact how it rides and handles.
But many people don’t know that if these adjustments are wrong, they might affect the readings on their speedometer and odometer. The term “rolling diameter” refers to the wheel and tire’s overall height and travel distance.
Many speedometers and odometers base their readings on how quickly and far the wheels rotate. The information displayed on your car’s dashboard is predicated on the circumference of your tire matching the original manufacturer’s requirements.
The diameter and circumference of your car’s tire will increase if you use the exact profile tire on a larger wheel, which will change the readings on your car’s speedometer and odometer. This is because the overall height of the wheel/tire combination has increased.
3. Don’t go overboard on size; choose modestly
The main justification offered by customers for purchasing Strada wheels is that they want something larger to give their vehicle a sportier look and improve handling. These wheels may look fantastic, but remember that more wheel size means greater compromises in ride comfort and safety.
A wheel and tire combination becomes heavier as they grow in size. This adds weight to your suspension, making the ride harsher and, in severe circumstances, causing the wheel to follow potholes and perhaps yank the steering wheel from your hands.
4. Avoid stretching it
The breadth of the wheel must be increased to accommodate larger diameter wheels. The “two-plus-one” rule, which states that you can only increase the diameter by a maximum of two inches while staying within a maximum one-inch width, is known among car enthusiasts.
Recent trends among certain vehicle enthusiasts include mounting very wide wheels on cars with tires smaller than the wheel manufacturer recommends. This is neither safe nor legal when done to the extreme.
